Toledo Transfer Safety Grant Blascak Commits to UConn

Jason Candle’s Toledo to UConn pipeline continues to strengthen the Huskies’ roster. The new head coach added another talented prospect from his previous program to his current squad.

Safety Grant Blascak committed to UConn from the transfer portal on January 26, 2026. JGPCFB broke the news via X.

“BREAKING: 2026 3-Star Safety Grant Blascak has committed to UConn, he tells me. The 6’3″, 210 lb S was previously committed to Toledo. ‘Let’s work Husky Nation,’” the caption read.

The 6-foot-3, 210-pound defensive back decommitted from Toledo to follow Candle to Connecticut with three years of remaining eligibility.

Grant Blascak’s Career

Grant Blascak completed his high school career at Walsh Jesuit High School in Stow, Ohio. He earned three-star recruit status nationally. He received offers from Toledo, Miami (OH), Buffalo, Massachusetts, and Kent State, among others.

Grant Blascak, UConn

Blascak initially committed to Toledo in March 2025. However, when Jason Candle departed Toledo for UConn in early December 2025, he reconsidered his commitment. He immediately decommitted and reopened his recruitment, ultimately choosing to reunite with Candle at Connecticut.

What does Grant Blascak bring to UConn?

Blascak’s ability to play both free safety and strong safety provides the coaching staff flexibility in defensive deployment and coverage assignment. His three years of remaining eligibility make him a long-term contributor.

His size allows him to cover ground effectively over the middle while maintaining the physicality necessary for downhill run support.

Grant Blascak joins a growing contingent of secondary acquisitions, completing UConn’s safety and defensive back rebuild. The safety room now features the likes of Blascak, Braedyn Moore (Toledo transfer, Power Four experience from Wisconsin), Jayden Price (Toledo), and Tyrique Harris (Toledo).
