Anthony Davis’ Tenure With Dallas Mavericks
Davis joined Dallas on February 1, 2025, in the blockbuster trade that sent Luka Dončić to the Los Angeles Lakers. Injuries plagued his Mavericks stint. Davis arrived with an abdominal injury, suffered a left adductor strain in his debut (missing significant time), and has been sidelined since early January 2026 with a ligament injury in his left hand.

He played just nine games for Dallas last season (20.0 PPG, 10.1 RPG, 4.4 APG, 2.2 BPG) and 20 games this season (20.4 PPG, 11.1 RPG, 2.8 APG). The Mavericks finished 10th in the West (39-43) last season before losing in the play-in tournament. This season, they’re 19-31 (12th in West).
Just 12 months after arriving in Dallas as a supposed savior, Davis heads to his fourth franchise (Pelicans, Lakers, Mavericks, Wizards).
How Does the Anthony Davis Trade Help the Wizards?
Washington (13-36, 14th East) pairs Davis with Trae Young, Alex Sarr, Kyshawn George, Tre Johnson, and Bilal Coulibaly without surrendering their own 2026 first-round pick.
Davis, 32, remains under contract for three more seasons on a five-year, $213.2 million extension signed with the Lakers in 2023. He won’t return until early March, but could debut for Washington against the Knicks on March 6.

Will Dawkins previously traded Bradley Beal and Kyle Kuzma to acquire Young and draft capital. Adding Davis to the mix makes them a serious threat.

How Does the Anthony Davis Trade Help the Mavericks?
Dallas gains immediate help with Middleton (33 years old, $33M salary this year) alongside young prospects Johnson (20), Branham (22), and Bagley (26). The five picks, particularly the 2026 Thunder first-rounder, pave the way for the Mavericks for a full rebuild post-Dončić era.
