Ravens Sign Austin Reed After Lamar Jackson and Tyler Huntley Injuries

The Baltimore Ravens have added another quarterback to their roster as they deal with a growing injury crisis ahead of Thursday night’s game against the Jacksonville Jaguars. Baltimore signed Austin Reed to its practice squad on Monday, leaving the team with another option after losing both Lamar Jackson and Tyler Huntley to injuries.

To make room for Reed, the Ravens waived rookie fullback Lucas Scott. ESPN’s Adam Schefter first reported the move on X.

“A QB addition in Baltimore: the Ravens signed QB Austin Reed, who spent time with the team in training camp, to the practice squad,” Schefter tweeted.

Lamar Jackson’s Devastating Setback and Quarterback Room Collapse

The signing comes after Baltimore’s 36–10 loss to the Buffalo Bills on Sunday night, when Jackson fractured his right thumb on his first offensive snap. The two-time MVP was returning from a three-game absence with an ankle injury, but his comeback ended almost immediately. He is expected to undergo surgery and be placed on injured reserve, putting the rest of his 2026 season in doubt.

The Ravens lost their backup quarterback as well. Huntley suffered a turf toe injury in the second quarter after being sacked by Bills safety Cole Bishop. He finished 2-of-4 for zero yards before leaving the game.

That forced undrafted rookie Joe Fagnano into his regular-season debut. He completed 10 of 21 passes for 91 yards and an interception as Baltimore managed only 165 total yards and fell to 4–4, its third consecutive defeat.

Austin Reed’s Familiarity With Baltimore’s Offense

Reed gives Baltimore a familiar face with little time to prepare for Jacksonville. The 26-year-old spent training camp with the Ravens after joining the team on August 12. He originally entered the NFL as an undrafted free agent with the Chicago Bears in 2024 and spent his rookie season on their practice squad.

Reed also arrives with recent UFL experience. He led the Dallas Renegades with 21 passing touchdowns during the spring of 2026 before joining Baltimore. In two preseason appearances with the Ravens, he completed 12 of 18 passes for 114 yards and a touchdown but was released during final roster cuts on August 29.

With Huntley’s availability uncertain, Reed could be elevated to the active roster for Thursday night’s matchup and serve as Fagnano’s backup. The Ravens have little time to sort out their quarterback situation, with a short turnaround and their playoff hopes already under pressure.
