The Dallas Mavericks have traded 10-time NBA All-Star Anthony Davis to the Washington Wizards as part of an eight-player trade completed on February 4, 2026, just one day before the NBA trade deadline. NBA insider Shams Charania broke the news via X.
“BREAKING: The Dallas Mavericks are trading 10-time NBA All-Star Anthony Davis, Jaden Hardy, D’Angelo Russell and Dante Exum to the Washington Wizards for Khris Middleton, AJ Johnson, Malaki Branham, Marvin Bagley III, 2 first-round picks and 3 second-rounders, sources tell ESPN,” Charania wrote.

Anthony Davis’ Tenure With Dallas Mavericks
Davis joined Dallas on February 1, 2025, in the blockbuster trade that sent Luka Dončić to the Los Angeles Lakers. Injuries plagued his Mavericks stint. Davis arrived with an abdominal injury, suffered a left adductor strain in his debut (missing significant time), and has been sidelined since early January 2026 with a ligament injury in his left hand.
He played just nine games for Dallas last season (20.0 PPG, 10.1 RPG, 4.4 APG, 2.2 BPG) and 20 games this season (20.4 PPG, 11.1 RPG, 2.8 APG). The Mavericks finished 10th in the West (39-43) last season before losing in the play-in tournament. This season, they’re 19-31 (12th in West).
Just 12 months after arriving in Dallas as a supposed savior, Davis heads to his fourth franchise (Pelicans, Lakers, Mavericks, Wizards).
How Does the Anthony Davis Trade Help the Wizards?
Washington (13-36, 14th East) pairs Davis with Trae Young, Alex Sarr, Kyshawn George, Tre Johnson, and Bilal Coulibaly without surrendering their own 2026 first-round pick.
Davis, 32, remains under contract for three more seasons on a five-year, $213.2 million extension signed with the Lakers in 2023. He won’t return until early March, but could debut for Washington against the Knicks on March 6.
